FOR SILK & WOOL:
1.

Carefully pre-dissolve dye powder, making a paste with a little cold water, then adding a small amount of hot water. Use 1% Dye to wgt. of fabric for a light shade, 5% for a deep shade. Use a little more dye for a black.

2.

Set bath at luke warm temperature, using approximately 3 to 6 gallons of water per pound of materials; enough water to allow fabric to move freely in bath.

3.

Acid dyes require addition of vinegar or acetic acid to the dyebath. Use 3-5 Tbs. vinegar per quart of water for a deep shade, less for a lighter shade. Add gradually as dyeing progresses.

4.

Place pre-washed wet material in luke warm bath containing a portion of pre-dissolved dye and acetic acid or vinegar. Bring bath to a slow boil, gently stirring to assure evenness. Additions of pre-dissolved dye or acid may be made at any time, moving cloth aside temporarily as additions are made. Since bath must reach a boil for wash-fastness, color should be added judiciously. If the desired shade is reached immediately, shade will be too deep when water boils.

5.

Cloth may be removed when a boil is reached, or left in longer for a deeper color. After dyeing, cloth should be washed in warm water with soap or ALJO® WA-6 Surfactant.

6.

Wool should be handled gently particularly at higher temperatures, to avoid felting and distortion. Do not "shock" wool by sudden temperature change. Remove bath from heat as desired depth of shade is approached and allow wool to cool down slowly in bath. Remove wool from lukewarm bath and wash in lukewarm water to remove excess dye.

FREE HAND PAINTING:
Make solution concentrated to desired strength, using half water and half vinegar. This solution may be thickened to paint consistency with ALJO® Gum Thickener #3056. Painted fabrics must be steam set if washability is required. Details for steam setting are available upon request.

FOR NYLON:
With a few exceptions, these acid dyes will dye Nylon beautifully. The exceptions are Imperial Blue, Leaf Green, Jade Green and Emerald Green. Acid dyes may be rendered more wash-fast by using ALJO® PRO-FIX 7D after the dyebath has been completed.
